A Ber rune won't open Echo of Tristram, and a Standard of Heroes doesn't explain why your Hellfire Torch failed to appear. That distinction matters when you're sorting through Diablo 4 Items and deciding where to spend scarce materials. Season 15 brings equipment crafting, encounter access, and character rewards into the same conversation, but treating them as one progression system is an expensive mistake.

The useful question isn't simply where an item drops. It's whether that item solves your next problem: finishing equipment, reaching the encounter, or making its rewards worth another attempt.

1 Is Spending Ber Actually Your Next Upgrade

Ber belongs to your equipment plan, not your encounter entry requirements. Its fixed Horadric Cube recipe uses two Lo runes and one Grand Topaz to produce one Ber. Converting two Ber runes with one Grand Sapphire produces Jah, but a higher rune isn't automatically a better use of your resources.

Enigma requires Jah, Ith, and Ber in a compatible Normal white chest armor base. Infinity requires Ber, Mal, Ber, and Ist in a compatible weapon base. That makes your intended recipe more important than the temptation to keep converting materials upward.

2 What Must Be Unlocked Before You Spend a Splinter

Old Tristram access and repeat encounter access are separate hurdles. To reach the town, read all ten Deckard's Journals across Sanctuary, then return to Deckard Cain at the Imperial Library in Caldeum. Deckard's Memory provides the portal, while access to the Horadric Cube through Lord of Hatred supports the preparation that follows.

The seasonal questline deserves priority. The October 14, 2026 patch, version 3.2.3, prevents premature Prime Evil Splinter consumption from blocking seasonal progress, but it does not repair characters already affected. The stated workaround is completing the questline on another character within the same Normal or Hardcore and Normal or Solo Self-Found partition.

Once those prerequisites are settled, the preparation sequence becomes straightforward.

1) Collect one Splinter of Terror, one Splinter of Destruction, and one Splinter of Hatred.

2) Combine all three in the Horadric Cube to create Wirt's Lucky Coin.

3) Bring the coin to Old Tristram's fountain and select Wish.

Don't activate a required Splinter while assembling the recipe: doing so consumes it to change your Prime Evil power. These consumables are also distinct from socketable Soul Splinters. Similar names make inventory mistakes easy; checking the item's function is cheaper than replacing it.

3 How Do You Make Each Encounter Attempt Count

The three Pinnacle Waking Nightmares become available at Torment 10 or higher: The Labyrinth in Scosglen, Worldstone Keep in the Fractured Peaks, and Durance of Hate in Hawezar. Their Splinter drops aren't guaranteed, and the associated Prime Evil does not reliably identify which Splinter you'll receive. Helltide encounters and seasonal reputation caches offer additional opportunities.

That uncertainty makes wasted coins particularly irritating. Selecting Wish consumes one coin and opens the encounter portal, where Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto fight together. Unlocking the town doesn't remove that recurring entry cost.

Four-player rotations can distribute the expense, with each member contributing a coin for successive clears. However, the reported possibility of receiving four Torches across four encounters should not become an expectation of guaranteed rewards.

◆ Have the leader use Reset Dungeons between encounters, then supply another coin.

4 Which Rewards Should Change Your Build

The Hellfire Torch deserves more scrutiny than its All Skills roll alone. Its stated ranges include 10% to 20% All Stats, 10% to 20% Resistance to All Elements, and one to four All Skills. A Greater Affix can raise All Skills to five, and the Torch permits one additional Unique Charm.

Each Torch also contributes one point toward a randomly selected class set. That contribution can change the comparison between two otherwise similar drops. Before replacing your current setup, check what the set contribution actually activates and what the additional Unique Charm lets you equip.

The Standard of Heroes is less actionable. Its practical purpose remains unresolved in the supplied Season 15 details, with no established crafting recipe, character bonus, or cosmetic unlock. Receiving one without a Torch also doesn't establish a reliable reward timer. Don't spend another coin because an assumed waiting period has elapsed.

If you decide to buy diablo 4 runes cheap, keep that equipment decision separate from your encounter budget. Finish the recipe your build needs, preserve the Splinters required for entry, and judge each Torch by the changes it enables rather than the excitement of seeing it drop.
